Herbalife protein pancakes made with Protein Bake Mix

Herbalife protein pancakes: three official recipes

Carolina — HerbalStoreUK

Two official recipes, two different products. The quick one is 24 g of Protein Bake Mix and 30 ml of milk. The UK one is a blender batter built on Formula 1 Banana Cream and makes four portions. Both are Herbalife's, not ours.

1. The two-ingredient pancake

5 min prep · 3 min cooking · makes 1 large pancake

  1. Heat a non-stick pan on low.
  2. Stir the Bake Mix and the liquid together until smooth.
  3. Pour into the middle of the pan and spread to the thickness you want.
  4. Cook 2–3 minutes until golden underneath, flip, and repeat.

2. Banana Cream pancakes — the UK recipe

This one is from Herbalife's UK recipe collection, created by Rachel Allen. It makes four portions, it is vegetarian, and unlike the one above it is built on Formula 1 rather than Protein Bake Mix.

Makes 4 · vegetarian · per portion: 165 kcal, 7 g protein, 5 g fibre

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 tbsp cider vinegar
  • 150 ml water
  • 100 g (1 cup) oat flakes
  • 1 serving (7 g) Multifibre Drink
  • ½ serving (14 g) Protein Drink Mix
  • 1 serving (26 g) Formula 1 Banana Cream
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  1. Put everything into a powerful blender in the order listed and blend to a thick batter.
  2. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile heat a large non-stick pan over medium — properly hot, but not scorching.
  4. Pour a generous spoonful per pancake. Cook 2–3 minutes until well golden underneath, then flip and give it a few minutes more.
  5. They are done in the middle when the centre feels slightly springy.
  6. Serve with fruit — banana slices and berries.

Herbalife's own tips: if the pan gets too hot the pancakes burn outside before the middle cooks, so watch the heat. And use a powerful blender so the oats break down close to flour — if yours is not up to it, blend the oats on their own first. If your pan is not non-stick, use a little oil, coconut for instance.

One note on this recipe. It calls for Multifibre Drink, which we do not currently stock. Oat Apple Fibre is the closest thing in our range, but swapping it in is our suggestion, not Herbalife's — the fibre blends are not identical.

3. Waffles

5 min prep · 5 min cooking

  • 1 serving (26 g) Formula 1 Healthy Meal, Vanilla Cream
  • 1 serving (24 g) Protein Bake Mix
  • 100 ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 1 medium egg
  • 2 egg whites
  • 30 g oat flour
  1. Whisk the eggs in a medium bowl, then add the milk.
  2. Add everything else and whisk to a smooth batter.
  3. Rest 15 minutes if you have time — not essential.
  4. Heat a waffle maker to medium and cook until golden on both sides.

The waffle recipe uses both Protein Bake Mix and Formula 1 Vanilla Cream.

The one mistake everyone makes

Too much heat. Protein batters catch far faster than flour ones. Herbalife say it themselves on the UK recipe: if the pan gets too hot, the pancakes burn on the outside before the inside cooks. If yours come out rubbery or raw in the middle, that is the heat, not the recipe.

What to put on top

The toppings usually cost more calories than the pancakes. Greek yoghurt and berries is the sensible default. Maple syrup undoes most of the point, though a small amount will not hurt anyone.

Allergens. Protein Bake Mix CONTAINS MILK, OAT, EGG AND WHEAT — not vegan, and not a gluten-free product. Formula 1 contains soy and oat; Protein Drink Mix contains soy and milk. The waffle recipe adds eggs and milk. Full declarations are on each product page.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make Herbalife protein pancakes?

The quickest way is 24 g (2 scoops) of Protein Bake Mix with 30 ml of milk or water, cooked 2–3 minutes a side on low heat. For a bigger batch, Herbalife's UK recipe blends Formula 1 Banana Cream with oats, banana and Protein Drink Mix.

Can you make pancakes with Formula 1?

Yes — Herbalife's own UK pancake recipe is built on Formula 1 Banana Cream. Bear in mind that once it is cooked, the nutrition figures on the Formula 1 label no longer describe what you are eating.

Do I need to add an egg?

Not to the Protein Bake Mix pancakes — whole egg powder and baking powder are already in the mix. The waffles do use eggs.

Why are my protein pancakes rubbery?

Heat too high, or cooked too long. Take them off while the middle still feels slightly springy.

Why does the UK recipe use vinegar?

It reacts with the baking powder, which is what lifts a batter with no egg in it. A tablespoon is what the recipe calls for and you will not taste it.

How many pancakes does one Bake Mix canister make?

Twenty servings at 24 g each — about twenty single pancakes, or ten double batches.
